Do a good turn daily

Mind if I rant? Good, because it's my blog & I'll rant if I want to!

As I was headed to pick up Lydia from preschool (with about 30 seconds to spare) I passed a guy whose car stalled in the driveway of a busy shopping center. It is a side entrance, but an entrance no less. I felt bad that I couldn't stop, but figured someone would help the guy out.

Twenty minutes later, I was coming home and saw him in the same spot, this time filling his gas tank from a plastic gas can. There were cars driving around him, looking bugged. I pulled into the parking lot, parked my kids in the shade and got out & helped the guy push his car up where he could work on it, since filling it with gas hadn't helped.

Tell me why it was easier for the mom in the minivan to get out and push the car in my flip flops than it would have been for the many MALES who drove by alone to stop. How about the guys from Jiffy Lube across the street?

Look around and see who could use a hand. I spent about 45 seconds of my life to help this guy. Hopefully his day goes better from here out.

When I was in Sunshine Generation decades ago, we sang a song that went something like this:
Fly your flag of sunshine each day
Beside the red, white and blue.
Smile when you say good morning.
Watch the world smile back at you.

Do a good deed for a neighbor.
Take someone's troubles to share.
Speak a kind word to a stranger
Let the world know that you care.

That's my challenge for you today!

I completely agree with you. There was a recent article about the "me" and "entitlement" generation- where greed and selfishness has taken over. If only we could all stop and ask ourselves "have I done any good in the world today?"
Good job on helping him out!

That reminds me of something that happened to me while I was at the "U" I came out of the institute and noticed my car had a flat. I know the basics of changing a tire, but not without help! Not one person stopped and even offered to help me, AND some people even asked me if I was going to be leaving after my tire got fixed so they could have my parking place! Seriously?! How about you get out of your car and help me, or at least offer to help! Luckily Brad Lake happened to walk by after a few minutes and he helped me and sent me on my way!

Agreed! Andree's car stopped in the middle of a street, no way you could miss it. I tried to help her push it but we couldn't get it with just the two of us. WE stopped at least 4 cars to ask for some help but no one had the time. On the 5th car the men got out without being asked and helped us push it to where it would be safe. It was a sad day!
